Some examples of NTDs are Chagas disease, Chikungunya, Dengue, Leprosy, Rabies, and Trachoma among others. They affect 1 billion people globally.

Moderate Tropical Storm Ana was a deadly tropical cyclone that affected the African nations of Madagascar, Malawi, and Mozambique and the second-deadliest weather event in 2022 thus far, after Cyclone Batsirai. The first named storm of the 2021–22 South-West Indian Ocean cyclone season, Ana developed from an area of convection that was designated as Invest 93S northeast of Madagascar.

The Quadrantids, one of the brightest annual meteor showers, are active from December 28 to January 12. According to NASA, approximately 80 meteors per hour can be seen with the meteor velocity is 41 kilometers per second. Though most meteor showers originate from comets, the Quadrantids originate from an asteroid named 2003 EH1. The meteor shower gets its name from the constellation of Quadrans Muralis (Mural Quadrant).

The world’s largest canal lock has been inaugurated at Ijmuiden, a small port city, in the Port of Amsterdam, The Netherlands. The sea lock was inaugurated by Dutch King Willen-Alexander. The Ijmuiden sea lock is 500-meter (1,640-feet) long and 70-meter wide. Construction on the massive infrastructure project began in 2016 and was meant to be done by 2019. It also went over the initially planned budget by around €300 million ($338 million). The Ijmuiden lock was designed to allow large, modern cargo ships to reach the port of Amsterdam. The structure is also deep enough that ships will no longer have to wait for a favorable water level to enter the canal. With almost nine meters above the sea leave, the structure is also a defense against the threat of flooding.

Three people, including two Indian nationals and one Pakistani national, were kill as three fuel trucks exploded and a fire broke out near Abu Dhabi airport on Monday in what Yemen’s Houthis claimed was an attack deep inside the United Arab Emirates.
