Egypt unveiled on March 19, 2022, five ancient Pharaonic tombs at the Saqqara archaeological site south of Cairo, the latest in a series of landmark discoveries in the area. Saqqara is a vast necropolis of the ancient Egyptian capital Memphis, a Unesco World Heritage Site home to more than a dozen pyramids, animal burial sites, and ancient Coptic Christian monasteries. The United Nations Environment Assembly (UNEA) with 175 member countries, signed a mandate which makes it legally binding for the signatories to end plastic pollution. The Global Plastics Treaty will be drafted and ratified in the next two years. The mandate recommends measures to tackle plastic production and address the toxic burden of plastic.

Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) successfully launched a military satellite, Noor-2, into orbit at an altitude of 500 kilometers (311 miles) from the earth the state media said on 8 March 2022. This is the second military satellite launched by the Islamic Republic. The first military satellite, Noor, was launched in April 2020 at an orbit of 425km (265 miles) above the earth’s surface. Noor means light in the Persian language.

International Day of Remembrance of the Victims of Slavery and the Transatlantic Slave Trade is a United Nations international observance designated in 2007 to be marked on 25 March every year. The day honors and remembers those who suffered and died as a consequence of the transatlantic slave trade, which has been called “the worst violation of human rights in history”, in which over 400 years more than 15 million men, women and children were the victims.

World Civil Defence Day is annually observed across the globe on 1st March to honour the significance of Civil Defence and the personnel who have sacrificed their lives for it. The purpose of the Day is to promote public awareness about civil defence, civil protection and emergency management in order to better prepare the civilian population to protect itself in the event of an emergency and to reduce the risk of disaster.

Russia is alleged to have a role in the downing of Malaysia Airlines flight MH17 that crashed in eastern Ukraine’s Donetsk region in 2014 when Crimea was annexed by Russian forces. Recently, amidst the Russian invasion of Ukraine, Australia and the Netherlands are set to launch a new legal case against Russia, regarding the MH17 Crash Case.
