Before this game, India had played 999 ODIs and recorded 518 victories. They had suffered 431 defeats, while nine matches had ended in ties and 41 matches had no result. India skipper Rohit Sharma said that it will be a privilege for him to lead the Men in Blue as they take the field to play their 1000th ODI.

Russian President Vladimir Putin on February 21, 2022, recognized two Moscow-backed rebel regions of Ukraine as independent, in a move that could set off a potentially catastrophic war with Kyiv`s Western-backed government. In an often angry 65-minute televised national address, Putin railed against Russia`s ex-Soviet neighbor Ukraine as a failed state and puppet of the West, repeatedly suggesting that it is essentially part of Russia.

US President Joe Biden signed into law a bill titled, “Ghost Army Congressional Gold Medal Act”, to provide recognition to the ‘Ghost Army’. It is a tactical deception unit deployed by the US during World War II. There are just nine surviving veterans of the Ghost Army across the US. The Congressional Gold Medal is the Congress’s highest award of national appreciation for distinguished contributions.
